How much does Mexican auto insurance cost?

Does my insurance policy cover me in Mexico?

Some U.S. and Canadian policies may cover your vehicle for physical damage.  The Mexican government, however, does not recognize U.S. or Canadian policies as valid liability insurance in Mexico.

How is the value of my vehicle determined?

Your local car dealer or insurance agent should be able to help you determine your vehicle's value.  The Kelley Blue Book of used car values may be useful as a guide as well.  Click here for more information.  We advise you not to underinsure.

What if I have a loan on my vehicle?

If you have a loan on your vehicle or trailer, most lenders will require that they be furnished a copy of your policy indicating that the unit is insured while in Mexico.  Upon request, we will supply a "lienholder" copy of the policy naming your bank or financial institution as lender.  Always allow enough time before your trip into Mexico for the handling of paperwork.

What are the roads like in Mexico?

Road conditions have drastically improved over the years.  Roads are constantly being improved and highways are being divided.  Most toll roads in Mexico are comparable to the roads found in the UNited States.

Do I need a tourist permit to enter Baja California, Mexico (San Felipe, Ensenada, Tijuana)?

Those visiting for 72 hours or less will not be required to pay a fee.  After the first 72 hours, tourists are required to pay $15.00 at a local Mexican bank or at the checkpoint.

Do i need Mexican currency (pesos) to make purchases?

It is recommended to be prepared with the amount of pesos you will be spending.  If you run out of pesos, Mexicans will be more than happy to accept U.S. currency (dollar) at a lower exchange rate.

Can I take my dog into Mexico?

Yes.  You will need documentation proving your dog has had rabies vaccinations.  This is, for the most part, to re-enter into the United States.
